The Perth hospitality scene is evolving and Print Hall has consistently been at the forefront. Bringing the award winning Print Hall Dining Room to the market, the question has remained ‘Why did they close the dining room?’ It was time to bring a new experience to the market. Perth’s dining scene welcomes Gazette, a new modern Italian venture from Colonial Leisure Group inside the Print Hall Building.
Inspired by the vibrancy of Roman culture, Gazette brings a fun playful take to Italian dining with a focus on traditional, hearty dishes. A Josper oven forms the centrepiece of the kitchen, firing charcoal grilled Margaret River veal and prime cuts of beef. Regional ingredients feature across the menu – try a salad of charcoal-grilled Western Australian cuttlefish, or Fremantle octopus with locally sourced chorizo. Hand-made pizzas and pastas round out the menu – just as you’d expect from this modern twist on classic Italian dining.
Gazette’s Italian flavour extends to the drinks list, with its cosmopolitan wine and cocktail offering featuring a large selection of Italian drops. The design of the venue encourages feasting, with booths to cosy up in, a long table for group dining, a ‘Feed Me’ menu option designed for sharing and local DJs providing the soundtrack.
Bringing extensive culinary and service experience to Gazette is an intercontinental team of hospitality professionals. Giles Bailey heads the kitchen, backed up by Fabrice Lecoq in the eatery. Together, the Gazette team have worked in kitchens across Italy, Spain and France, bringing true European finesse to the Gazette experience.
Housed in the space that was the award-winning Print Hall Dining Room, Gazette pays tribute to the heritage of the Print Hall Building. Previously home to the Perth Gazette and Western Australian Journal, which printed its first edition in January 1833, the fit-out by Projects of Imagination (managed by Nick Cox) gives a modern European twist to the building’s historical elements.
“Gazette is about that Italian way of life – sharing good food, wine and conversation over a long lunch or dinner. Italians always find the time to eat properly and we think Perth deserves to do the same,” said Sebastian Lepoittevin, General Manager of Print Hall.
Gazette opens on Friday 1 September and is open from 11:30am-12am Monday to Thursday, 11:30am-late on Friday and 12pm-late on Saturday (closed Sundays).
